She's Crafty - turquoise pants

Well - I actually got a picture of Bridget in one of the pair of pants I've made her. I think they're adorable - Bill occasionally asks if that's really what they're supposed to look like :)! I think he's referencing the somewhat long crotch. I'm going to try and shorten that up a little - but straying from a pattern has not been good for me in the past, we'll see how it goes! Like I said before - mom and I are going to get some skirts and aprons done for a local show and then hopefully do a show at a friends house. We've named our "venture" - I can't call it a business yet because I don't want to jinx it. Ruffle Joy - ahhhhh :).

Apple Season!

The girls and I had a blast at the Apple Orchard this weekend. Bill was at a Nebraska game so I had to do a little self talking before taking the girls to the Orchard by myself. "We don't have a time schedule, it doesn't matter how long we are out picking apples, it doesn't matter how many times Bridget wants to ride the train, it doesn't matter how many kittens Lucy wants to follow" etc., etc. Well - it worked. We spent 2 1/2 hours at the orchard and enjoyed almost every minute (nothing ever goes totally perfect :)). When we got home I baked my first apple pie from scratch - usually I would have pics to show of the pie - but all I did was take one on my phone to send to Bill. BUT I do have pics of the girls!!! What is it about being outdoors with little kids? It's really like magic.

She's Crafty - skirt and outfit from nana

So - my mom and I are making things like CRAZY!!! It's so fun, and very addicting. In the last two weeks or so I've knit a baby hat, knit a washcloth, knit a hat for Bill, sewn a skirt for Bridget, made chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin muffins and apple muffins. I'm loving domesticity and the opportunity to really enjoy it!!! I've got a couple pics below - the polka dot skirt is just a fun skirt for Bridget for this Fall that I made - and then the outfit from Nana. The pictures really don't do it justice - it is so fantastic!!! Mom and I are working on some things for a craft show - and then hopefully an open house at a friend's house. We'll see how it all goes!

First Haircut

Lucy had her first haircut today. She was developing quite a mullet and we needed to take care of it ASAP! Bridget got her haircut too - just a trim. Our hairdresser asked me if I wanted her to defuse Bridget's hair for fun - I said go for it! Is that bad :) ?! I felt like a little bit of a stage mom, but I justified it by knowing we were just going home - not to the local pageant :). Here are both girls with their new do's.

First Preschool Treat

Tomorrow I am in charge of our first preschool treat. The theme is apples so I was trying to find an apple muffin recipe. Muffins would be easy for the kids to eat, taste good, etc. etc. Well, wouldn't you know it - my mom had the PERFECT apple muffin recipe for preschoolers. You top them with an apple ring before baking them!!! Bridget helped of course - such a little helper (can you hear the sarcasm? :))

Bridget

The funny's just keep on coming with Ms. Bridget. Tonight she told Bill, after he cooked dinner for all of us, that he was a "great man cook". She quickly followed up with, "a great chef". HA! Then while she and Lucy were taking a bath I told her to stop spitting water at me and she said, "I do it because it makes you scream". Ahhhh - maybe I liked it better when she couldn't speak quite so eloquently. :) She helped me make bread last week - hence the pics. This is my mom's french bread recipe and it is really apparent that I need to seriously work on loaf size.

Happy Anniversary to Us!

So, Bill and I did get to celebrate our anniversary on Friday night just perfectly. He golfed, while I rode the golf cart and knitted - ah perfection. Then we had a fab dinner. But today is our actual anniversary, and dinner wasn't quite as upscale. We went to a Chinese restaurant with the girls and listened to Chinese techno music while Bridget ran around the table dancing and Lucy squealed with total delight every time Bridget passed her. So romantic :) ...

The Dog Park is a good idea - right?

Well, maybe not in our case :). We had great intentions. Take our dog to the dog park, bring the kids and everyone gets outside and is entertained. Well - I guess we were all entertained. Bridget ran around after the dog the entire time - which was great until she slipped in mud and covered herself in it. No biggie, we'll just take her skirt off for the ride home. She then demanded the playground - which is right next to the dog park so that sounded great. After playing for 3 minutes she informed me she had to go potty as she peed her pants - the outing went south from there. Since she was covered in mud and pee we had no option except to strip her down in the parking lot - I can imagine what people were thinking as they watched us :). I luckily had another pair of undies. So, after her Wet Ones bath in the parking lot we put on her extra pair of undies and headed home. The intentions were so good!!! In spite of all that we had a great time and all stayed amazingly happy and calm :)! Never a dull moment...

This pic is from the cabin - but she was just about as dirty tonight :)

Souper Saturday!

We held the 3rd annual Soup Saturday today. It started with my mom, sister and I 3 years ago. We wanted to make a bunch of soup to freeze for the winter. We had SO MUCH FUN the first year, we vowed to do it every year. This year we added one more lovely lady - my friend Sara. We had so much fun, made so much soup and enjoyed every second! I suggest you do something like this with anyone you can get together! We each left with 4 different fabulous soups and 12 meals to put in the freezer for the winter - you just can't beat it!

Lucy's hair - again

She's Crafty - 4 hour knit hat

Just my style. The book listed this project as 2 - 4 hours and they were right! I was able to knit one for Bridget and one for Lucy. I swear knitting them hats is really stupid - they refuse to keep them on. But damn if they aren't the quickest patterns out there! And - as I've said before - patience is not my deal. I want to make it and wear it in the same day if at all possible. I did get a couple of pictures of Bridget in hers before she took it off. Of course I had to threaten her by asking Lucy if SHE wanted to wear Bridget's hat - of course Lucy doesn't answer yet - but that's all Bridget needed to hear to put it on for a few pics.

A bunch of firsts for Bridget

Bridget has been embarking on many firsts lately. I'm amazingly excited for all of them - really not emotional at all, just excited. She had her first day of preschool. She came out saying, "Oh mom - I had SUCH a good time!" What else would a mom want to hear?! She also went to her first dance class today. I now understand what "living vicariously through your children" truly means :)! I'm pretty sure it was more fun for me than her - though she again said, " I had SO much fun!" It doesn't hurt that her Aunt Jackie is her teacher :). She also saw her first buffalo in the Black Hills. She thought it was cool but told me many times not to get too close. Little does she know that although I'm amazed by buffalo, I'm mostly terrified. Wait until she hears about how I feel about ocean life!! (beyond terrified - for those of you that don't know). And of course, a few pics to celebrate all of it. I could have posted so many pictures, but they just take too long to upload!
